By now I think it is safe to say, we have all heard about some of the health benefits of red wine. But the latest one seems to have captured the attention of a new audience… the ever- so popular group seeking to lose the excess weight.
I have to admit, I wouldn’t have ever thought I would use weight loss and wine in the same sentence. Leave it up to researchers to once again to deliver us with some good news. In these studies, they have shown the ingredient in red wine, Resveratrol, to be responsible for boosting the metabolism. And by doing this we are burning fat which leads to… yep, you guessed it… Weight Loss!
In these studies, when mice were given a high calorie diet they gained less weight when given the supplement Resvertrol. Also, researchers in France found that Resveratrol actually increased the number of mitochondria (energy producing cell components). This increased number of mitochondria can have a significant impact on the body’s ability to produce energy and burn fat.
Some other great benefits of Red Wine are:
- Heart Health
- Brain Health
- Cholesterol – helps in lower HDL.
- Sleep – contains melatonin which regulates body clock.
- Inflammation – anti-inflammatory properties.
- Breast Cancer – lowers risk.
- Longevity – increase life-span
So how much Red Wine do you need to drink to reap the benefits?
The amount of Resveratrol needed for see a difference in your weight is far more than you could ever get from drinking red wine alone… something outrageous like 30 bottles a week. But the good news is there are now supplements available for our benefit. They come in a variety of powders, liquids, pills, and also different strengths. Through my own research, I have discovered some with additional ingredients to help with losing weight. My favorite so far is Resveratrol Select. The reason I have chosen this is the added natural ingredients from green tea and caffeine… these provide a safe and natural way to drop even more unwanted weight.
Of course with any weight loss plan, the most important factor will be always balance and moderation. Any additional supplements should be treated as temporary until you have reached a reasonable goal. By this point you will have learned the tools it takes to maintain your weight and a healthy lifestyle.
Like with everything else in life, you journey to your goal weight will not always be perfect or go smoothly. Always allow yourself to make mistakes or have bad days… it is going to happen. And when it does, get over it, forget about it and move on. Don’t look at losing weight as a dreaded task… it will only make you feel sad and unmotivated. Instead, think of it as making some healthy changes to feel and look better. Stay positive and don’t be too hard on yourself!
In closing, I just want to make sure you know I am not suggesting to drink red wine for weight loss. But rather for you to understand the many benefits of Resveratrol.
